Story
Mikael Karlsson Band is a loungefusion-trio, originally from Helsingborg, but since 2007 based in Klippan. Bandmembers are: Mikael Karlsson, guitar, vocals and composer, Örjan Mjörnheden, bass and administration, Per-Olof Borg, drums and technical know-how. Mikael Karlsson Band was born in march 2004 after long and frutiful discussions between Mikael and Örjan.. Mikael and Orjan had shared guitar duties in regional bluesband Bluesministrarna, since 2001, and liked working together. They had found a mutual passion also in music outside of the blues. Mikael had been composing original material for years but wanted a band to perform his songs. It was time to create a one.
Mikael wanted to be the sole guitarplayer so Örjan set about to learn to play bass. A chance meeting with a great drummer at a friends party in the summer of 2003, led to Deodato Siquir, originally from Mocambique, playing the drums in Mikael Karlsson Band. After a couple of rehearsals in Deodato´s hometown Malmö, the setlist was created as a mix of Mikaels originals and a host of jazz- and rock-covers.
The band´s first gig took place at Café Tora in Torekov, in april 2004, just a month after the band´s birth. Since then Mikael Karlsson Band has gigged steadily in the region. The band has been a regular feature at Pub Telegrafens (in Helsingborg) jazz-saturdays, as well as getting gigs at Slagthuset, Malmö, Tomarps Kungsgård, Kvidinge, Jazzfestivals in Ängelholm and Helsingborg. Other selected spots at Cafés and Restaurants around Helsingborg like ”Café Ro”, Restaurang ”Ankaret” and ”Hos Jonas”.
During 2005 the band delved deeper into Mikaels compositions as and strenghtened it´s interplay. Gigwise, it was a good year. In 2006 it was time to re-create the group and in august the same year, Mikael Karlsson Band parted company with Deodato Siquir. Since then drummer Per-Olof Borg, an old friend of the band, has been sticksman in Mikael Karlsson Band. In 2008, Mikael Karlsson Band will release their debut record in association with record company ”Svenska Popfabriken”, based in Klippan. It´s a four song cd with Mikael´s own compositions.
