2008-12-07 Since our last recording (07) i`ve been working on new original song-material, mostly instrumental songs but also some new vocal-tunes. We will meet soon and rehears this material and some cover tunes. While Örjan and PO are busy with other projects and me with the (Bluesministrarna) we will get together as much as posible and play live next year! See you at the next gig!/Mikael 2008-06-16 I heard the sad news today that the great Swedish jazz pianist and composer "Esbjörn Svensson" had passed away in a diving accident. I’ve been a big fan of Esbjörn Svenson Trio for a while and it’s truly inspiring to hear there music. I also got the chance to see them live. May the spirit of the music live forever./Mikael 2008-05-20 "Hi there! The last month or so has been a time for laying down new plans for Mikael Karlsson Band. Some time ago, when rehearsing, we talked through what the closest few months will mean to us. The members of the band have to take responsibility for some important family business, each of us. We believe that life matters have to come first and secondly, the band has to consider life options rather than the other way around. So maybe it will slow us down somewhat, but hey, that´s how we do it, there´s a rhytm to everything and we are anyway in this for the long run anyway, so - it´s all part of the course. Still, I´m working at securing new gigs, we will also continue to look for gigs abroad, something we really want to try. Mikael is writing new material as we have yet to make a part of our repertoire and so on. We are also looking into the possibility to mix our music with a danceprogram. I have connections with an old friend of mine who is a danceteacher at school in Avesta, some 200 km from Stockholm, and we have talked about co-working. We would also like to play in in Arbrå, Helsingland, a Swedish region in southern Norrland, where Mikael has his origins. It would be really nice to find new places to play our music. It´s the quest fo change, for change and making the band stronger!" Örjan, the bassplayer 2008-03-11 "As our record company Svenska Popfabriken have started to print the new Mikael Karlsson Band mini-cd on demand, we´d like to tell you about where to buy it. You can purchase our cd at the recordstores "Back Beat" and "Roadhouze Records" in Helsingborg. The prize is 60 Sk. Recordmarket "Vinylpågarna" in Ängelholm will also have our cd in store at the end of March. More than that, we will sell it at our gigs and if you get in touch with us through mail or phone (see "contact"), we can send it to you, with an added cost for package and stamps."2008-02-22 "21/2 - Mikael Karlsson Band´s new mini-cd is ready for the world! Every practical aspect of the workload surrounding the release of a cd is done with! We collectively thank the delivering two deliverers: through the gentle cooperation between me, the mad bassplayer, and Sven Tall, Workforce no 1 of Svenska Popfabriken/Raw Power in Klippan, Sweden a batch of cd´s is ready to be spread! The familyenterprise of Mikael Karlsson Band has once again given birth to a musical product - so everyone outthere who might be intrested in what our brand of lounge-fusion might sound like, please get in touch and we will send you a copy! Otherwise we will flog it at our gigs. So we got to get some now! Next time is at Pub Telegrafen in Helsingborg where Mikael Karlsson Band will play at the "Saturday Jazz", the 15 of march, between kl. 16 - 19. We ´d like to see you there! The mad bassplayer" 2008-01-21 " Yesterday me and Mikael met up with the board of record company "Svenska Popfabriken" in Klippan. To cut the crap, we made a deal with them which means that we can release our four song-record in association with their record company. So now we got a label! It means something else for me, as I got my musical education in Klippan, at the same time, as Popfabriken started out in 1977. I used to play proggressive rock in the band Tors Hammare then, which in 1980 recorded a nine-song demo in their very studio! Which is, by the way, getting digitalized for possible release. Tors Hammare, as well as Mikael Karlsson Band, played mainly instrumental music, so in a way, getting the cd out with the courtesy of this label, means that a long time waiting, is over! Well, 30 years! Together with Sven Tall of Popfabriken, a main expert of everything, we will start working on the practical stuff about the release Right Now!Örjan, the bassplayer " 2008-01-08 "It´s a new year and this is what Mikael Karlsson Band is aspiring to do: Three things: play gigs, rehearse and experiment more as well as record more! This is a model with the immediate goal to try to develop our band´s musical strenghts. Michael has written new material, some stuff with a slight tango-feel and we will also continue to pick up other people´s songs. Michael recently discovered the wonderful, bluesy "Equinox" by John Coltrane and we will see what we can do with that one. Michael is also going to buy his own recording gear so we can get the music on tape when we like and in our own control. We will also look further to see if we can get a record deal for the four-song cd Mikael Karlsson Band created last year. Hope to see you out there during 2008!"2007-11-20 Mikael Karlsson Band will play a short showcase in Klippan the 2 of december. This gig will serve as an introduction to the record company/musicgroup Svenska Popfabriken - which by the way will start it´s 30-year jubilee this week at Dunkers Culture Center in Helsingborg. Orjan, our bassplayer started out with progband Tors Hammare in 1977 as one of the first groups to record in Studio Bombadill in Klippan. Studio Bombadill was the forerunner to Svenska Popfabriken, which in the eighties put Klippan on the musical map with bands like Torsson, Kommissarie Roy and Kriminella Gitarrer. And as Tors Hammare, exactly as Mikael Karlsson Band, was/is into mainly instrumental music, this showcase gig feels like a sort of homecoming. We will also, along with other current bands from Klippan, meet the general public at this gig.2007-10-06 Finally! Michael came home from a weekend with producer Berno Pålsson in Malmoe - and I think that they delivered the goods. Four tracks, all material composed by Michael is completed and ready for the world. I´d like to say that the vision of what Mikael Karlsson Band might sound like, has come really close this time! The first song, "Summer with You", we have been performing since the start of the band in 2004 and if we ever might produce som hit-like stuff, this should be it. It´s in a west-coast style, reflecting Michael´s year and a half at MIT in LA, Guitarists United! "Beckstein", the second track, is inspired by the incomparable Jeff Beck. I think it grooves on, pretty nicely and you might detect some Beck-inspired licks all down the line. Another tribute makes up track three, "Tribute to E.J. - E.J. is of course Eric Johnson, The Texas Titan in Guitar World. Myself, I like the sheer drive of the song and I think Michaels melodies and Per-Olofs deft drumming wraps the tune up nicely. The last track this time, is called "Coast to Coast", with a energetic fusion-character. There´s a bouncy riff starting this song and than we take it away all the way to the end. We invite you to check all these tracks out on Mikael Karlsson Band´s Myspace-site and if you like to offer some feedback, we would be much obliged! Michael and the band is on a roll right now. Michael has several new songs coming on and we rehearse and develop our sound the best we can. Expect a little singing from me, new original songs and hopefully a somewhat more complex level of interplay from now on! See ya later and don´t forget that Myspace-listening! Cheers! Örjan Mjörnheden, bassplayer for MKB (Mikael Karlsson Band)2007-09-29 "In october 2006 Mikael Karlsson Band created the four rhytmtracks in Berno Pålsson Studios i Malmoe, Sweden for what is to become our new record. Since then, Mikael and his close technician friend Magnus Tornberg has worked with the overdubs in Magnus studioFenrir outside Klippan (in northern Skane). As Mikael and Magnus works very well together, have laid down an awful amount of creative energy in the project and both guys happen to be have very keen ears for detail - it has taken some time. A full year! Yes, we are talking Pink Floyd work ethic here! Mikael will sit down with Berno Pålsson again to mix and master the final results the last weekend of september 2007. We expect pretty soon to be able to present the new Mikael Karlsson Band cd! Stay tuned!" |
